RAID SPEED TEST /Benefits of Raid Video Clips. Duration : 5.93 Mins.

This is a quick Raid Array test I did to show the benefits of a raid array to those folks out there who have never used one, or dont know what a raid array is. Quite simply a Raid Array is nothing more than A "Redundant array of inexpensive Disks" or a bunch of cheap hard drives working together in various performance configurations to allow maximum throughput to be pushed through by all drives at once, thereby increasing maximum data flow. As an example one of my Samsung 250 Gb hard drives has a maximum burst rate of about 180mb per second, while 4 of them in Raid "0" bursts at over 370 mb. Cost for comparison wise A single Velociraptor Drive ( which costs 240-250 dollars) has a maximum burst rate of approx 210-220 mb, while my entire Array costs 200.00 for all 4 drives. And I get a Full terabyte of space, not 150 GB.

How to Build a Intel Core i7 System from Start to Finish Tube. Duration : 13.98 Mins.

More on parts here: bit.ly Build a system to last the test of time. In this demonstration, I show you how to install an Intel Core i7 on a Gigabyte GA-X58-A UD5 (Socket LGA1366) with 8GB DDR3 RAM using a CoolerMaster Centurion 534, CoolerMaster 600W Power Supply (PSU), and Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 120MM Heatpipe Cooler (RR-B10-212P-G1). For video graphics, we install a SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100281VX-2SR Radeon HD 5870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2 x 16 video card. We use a 128GB Crucial SSD to get us started with plenty of expansion room for future drives. OCZ Gold DDR3 1066 is used for the install. With a world class processor, motherboard, memory, hard drive and video graphics card, once you know how to install he mounting brackets for the cooler (heatsink/fan), the installation is literally a breeze, and you will be extending the life of your future proof desktop for a long time to come. The end result: A quiet PC that idles at 30C and passes Prime95 burn-in flawlessly. It's important to note that newer motherboards like the Gigabyte UD7 include built-in eSATA, USB3 ports, and SATA3 slots which can be a big consideration if you are looking to do it yourself (DIY) and build your own system today. With more memory and additional hard drives, this system could easily be commissioned as a high-powered server as well.

Skyrim Ram Disk vs Harddrive Loading Times

Skyrim Ram Disk vs Harddrive Loading Times Tube. Duration : 2.65 Mins.

This is a comparison of load times of a save game in Skyrim. The specs of my machine are: i7 930 OC @ 3.8GHz 12GB DDR3 1333MHz Triple Channel 9-9-9-24 RAM Nvidia GTX 560 Ti OC The test scenario was as follows: A saved game set at Lake Ilinalta, I chose this area because it is very large. From the second I clicked Load till the second you can see the world ingame is when I timed the loading times. Test 1: Data files stored on a 1TB SAMSUNG HD103UI hard drive, 5400RPM, 32MB Cache. A benchmark of the drives performance can be found here: gyazo.com As you can see, its pitiful and I should really move onto a better drive. From the video it may not be noticable but the loading screen at the start is a bit sluggish + once inworld it still lagged a little while it loaded the area. Test 2: I created a 6GB Ram Disk using RamDisk Plus. For those who don't know a ramdisk is a virtual hard drive made entirely of a portion of your RAM. That means it works like RAM, very fast i/o but if you switch off the computer, the data is lost. A benchmark of the 6GB RAM Disk is found here: gyazo.com A massive difference in random access speeds/times. Overall everything felt smoother than slicing through an imperial's body. The load time is drastically improved, I'll post another video wandering around a city, load times going in and out houses are negligible. By the time the screen darkens it comes back instantly. The video compromises the full two tests, from the Bethesda logo loading till I am ...

Reliably Erasing Data from Flash-Based Solid State Drives

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Reliably Erasing Data from Flash-Based Solid State Drives Video Clips. Duration : 30.90 Mins.

This refereed paper was presented by Michael Wei, Laura Grupp, Frederick E. Spada, and Steven Swanson of the University of California, San Diego at the 9th USENIX Conference on File and Storage Technologies (FAST '11). Abstract: Reliably erasing data from storage media (sanitizing the media) is a critical component of secure data management. While sanitizing entire disks and individual files is well-understood for hard drives, flash-based solid state disks have a very different internal architecture, so it is unclear whether hard drive techniques will work for SSDs as well. We empirically evaluate the effectiveness of hard drive-oriented techniques and of the SSDs' built-in sanitization commands by extracting raw data from the SSD's flash chips after applying these techniques and commands. Our results lead to three conclusions: First, built-in commands are effective, but manufacturers sometimes implement them incorrectly. Second, overwriting the entire visible address space of an SSD twice is usually, but not always, sufficient to sanitize the drive. Third, none of the existing hard drive-oriented techniques for individual file sanitization are effective on SSDs. This third conclusion leads us to develop flash translation layer extensions that exploit the details of flash memory's behavior to efficiently support file sanitization. Overall, we find that reliable SSD sanitization requires built-in, verifiable sanitize operations.

Installing an SSD in your desktop

Installing an SSD in your desktop Video Clips. Duration : 2.37 Mins.

lt is easy to install an SSD into your desktop system, using the Crucial bracket adapter kit, available on Crucial.com. Your kit should include two mounting brackets and mounting screws. You'll also need your new SSD and a SATA cable. First, power up your system, so you can determine if the SSD capacity is larger than the "used" space on your hard drive. To do this, just double click on "My Computer" and single click on the C: drive. Click Properties. If the "used" space on this drive is greater than your SSD's capacity, you'll have to move some of that data on to an alternative storage device like a USB drive or external hard drive. Once you've determined that the new SSD has enough capacity for your data, turn off the computer and disconnect the power source. Remove the case cover. Depending on your system, you'll remove the side panel or the back panel of the computer. Now you have access to the inside of your system. Next, take the mounting brackets at the SSD. Attach the brackets to the SSD by aligning the holes and screwing them together. Locate an open 3 ½ -inch drive bay in the computer and install the bracket with the mounting screws. After the drive bay is back in the system locate the end of the SATA data cable Then, attach the other end of the SATA connector to the mounted SSD. That's it! Now you're ready to clone the data off your old hard drive and on to the new SSD. For details on how to do that, check out our SSD data transfer video on the Crucial, com ...

It may be more expensive to buy one of these, but many people are starting to believe that they are much better for your computer. What are your thoughts? chris.pirillo.com - http

[How To] Upgrade RAM In A 2012 MacBook Pro

[How To] Upgrade RAM In A 2012 MacBook Pro Video Clips. Duration : 6.33 Mins.

www.macmixing.com - Mixing it up with Apple RATE, COMMENT, SUBSCRIBE Buy this RAM kit here amzn.to Buy a MacBook Pro With Retina Display here: amzn.to This is the third RAM install video I've done. While nothing has changed this time around, I like to document repairs/upgrades so that someone may get use out of it. Check out the writeup and video... This RAM upgrade is on a new 2012 MacBook Pro 15-inch model. This MacBook came stock with 4GB of RAM. Unfortunately that's not nearly enough for what I normally do on my MacBook, so why not max it out? The new MacBook Pro take 1600Mhz RAM which is substantially faster then the 2011 model RAM specs. Like previous versions above the 2010 models, the new MacBook Pros can handle 16GB of RAM. This moves for a massive performance increase so long as what you do warrants the upgrade. If you upgrade your RAM this high and don't actually use that much RAM, you won't see a huge noticeable difference. Conduct a test on your MacBook by going through your most intense task through your day-to-day needs, then check Activity Monitor to see if you're actually using all of your installed RAM. If you still have aa big chunk that's not in use, it's safe to say you probably don't need to upgrade the RAM. Another big upgrade that can be made is the move from a standard hard drive to a solid state drive (SSD). That would make a huge perceivable difference in performance and load times. As always, I hope this helps anyone looking to upgrade. Meet me ...

The time that you spent editing it is even more priceless. You want to protect yourself from a hard drive failure. With Drobo technology you can tolerate a drive failure, even two hard drive failures and never have to worry about your data." Unlike other storage options, Drobo lets users hot-swap drives, mix and match drives of different capacities, speeds, and types (SATA / SAS / SSD), and perform zero-support drive pack migration.
